Boris Johnson funniest quote

London is so lucky to have him as Mayor. The man really is a weapon. . . .

 boris-johnson.jpg

A soundbite from Boris Johnson has been voted the funniest British political quote of the last 50 years.

Asked by schoolchildren whether he would like to be Prime Minister, Johnson replied: “I have as much chance of becoming Prime Minister as being decapitated by a Frisbee or of finding Elvis.”

The nationwide poll of 2,587 people was commissioned by UKTV History to mark the launch of Andrew Marr’s History of Modern Britain.

Like your social networks? Try FriendFeed

friendfeed.png

Lets face it, we all love those social networking sites like facebook, myspace, bebo etc.  And, we all like to see what everyone else is doing - what blogs they are posting to, what they are bookmarking, what pictures they are uploading.  The list goes on.

One of the problems at the moment is that all these “social” sites are fragmented and don’t talk to each other.  It means if you really want to see what your friends are doing you need to be visiting all the different sites. Continued

Dead woman’s 42 years in front of TV

tv.jpg

I found this story on the net earlier today. Incredible.

The mummified remains of a Croatian woman have been found sitting in her armchair at home in front of a black and white TV set 42 years after she was reported missing.

Croatian police say Hedviga Golik, who was born in 1924, had apparently made herself a cup of tea and sat down to watch the television which at the time was regarded as a luxury item. Continued

Dating on the Tube

tube.jpg

For all you Londoners out there this story was on metro.co.uk yesterday.  Seems that the Tube is the place to be if you want to find love. . . .

Forget ‘misery line’ – the Northern Line should be dubbed the tunnel of love.

In a result that will no doubt add to its overcrowding, the Tube line has been found to have the sexiest passengers.

More than a third of people thought its combination of ’spiky-haired indie kids’ and ‘hot city types’ gave it the edge over other lines. Continued

Darth Vader in Court

darth-vadar.jpg

Surfing the web we found this little story on the BBC.  Enjoy. . . .

A man posing as Darth Vader attacked a Star Wars fan, who had founded a Jedi Church, a court has heard.

Arwel Wynne Hughes, 27, from Holyhead, Anglesey, admitted assaulting Barney Jones and cousin Michael with a metal crutch. They suffered minor injuries.

Hughes, who was drunk and dressed in a black bin bag, shouted “Darth Vader!”

Earlier, when Hughes failed to arrive on time, District Judge Andrew Shaw issued an arrest warrant, adding: “I hope the force will soon be with him.” Continued

Is this book the foundation for the plot of Lost?

flash-forward.jpg

Flash Forward - By Robert James Sawyer

The plot is remarkably similar to that of the hit ABC TV series. Additionally, have a look at the name of the author, then think of one of the principal characters in the series…James “Sawyer” - a remarkable coincidence or not.

Escapework.net have just ordered a copy from Amazon - as usual we’ll ley you all know what we think.

This is what the good people at www.Amazon.com say, it seems remarkably similar to the plot of the series as it stands at the midway point of the 4th series…

What would you do if you got a glimpse of your own personal future and it looked bleak? Try to change things, or accept that the future is unchangeable and make the best of it? In Flashforward, Nobel-hungry physicists conducting an unimaginably high-energy experiment accidentally induce a global consciousness shift. In an instant, everyone on Earth is “flashed forward” 21 years, experiencing several minutes of the future. But while everyone is, literally, out of their minds, their bodies drop unconscious; when the world reawakens, car wrecks, botched surgeries, falls, and other mishaps add up to massive death and destruction. Celebrities Heading to Oblivion

Here’s the latest celebrities boarding the 747 to oblivion.  Only three at the moment but there will be a second lot going through passport control over the weekend.

Seat #13: Tom Cruise (aka Thomas Cruise Mapother IV)

tom-cruise1.jpg

I’m kind of tired of Tom Cruise and I particularly dislike his vocal support of the cult Scientology.  His career has been financially successful but has he really done anything worth watching since Top Gun?  No.  That’s over 20 years of drivel and he gets a seat on that basis alone.

Now, the Scientology thing.  I’m not a fan of cults and I don’t think someone in the public eye should be trying to get the weak and vulnerable to part with their cash.  And, I’m also tired of being offered a free stress test by Scientology cult members every time I walk down Tottenham Court Road.

Worse than the homeless begging for skag money. Continued

wii_fit.jpg

On 25th April, fat and lazy people can get their hands on the latest Wii add-on called Wii Fit and then combine playing on the console with actually getting some exercise.

The Wii Fit comes with a “Balance Board” which looks like a set of bathroom scales and is filled with pressure sensors that measure weight and body movements.  There are 4 different training categories (aerobic exercises, muscle workouts, yoga and balance games) and about 40 different games to exercise to. Want to live like the rich and famous?

fractional_life_logo.gif

Whilst wasting time at work the other day I came across the website FractionalLife.com and thought it was an interesting concept that was worth sharing with you.

Essentially it is a kind of directory that links to other sites offering “fractional ownership” of assets.  Rather than owning something yourself, you are a shareholder with a number of other people.

With the economy in the state that it is (i.e. Credit Crunch) it isn’t always worth purchasing something outright when you will not use it everyday.  Or it might simply be way beyond your means but you still want to feel like you’re living the life of the super rich. Continued
